NAME OF NOMINEE: Brad Washburn
SCHOOL: North Sanpete High
CATEGORY: Speech & Drama
Please answer questions in the space provided.
What has the nominee done to demonstrate ability to work at or near full potential? Please be specific.
For the past four years I have worked with Brad as a serious student of dramatic arts. He has participated in all plays, musicals and competitions that have been produced at our school and in our region during that time. Often he has won outstanding awards for principle parts. Other times he has taken a more invisible role behind the scenes to coach others, perform the duties of stage manager or technician, and in general learn all he could about what it takes to put on a successful production. He has maintained straight A's in drama classes and has been a significant supporter, organizer and participant of drama club, where he has held several offices. He has proved himself to be reliable, tanacious, hard working and good natured.
What has been the most important contribution to the category in which the student offers him/herself as a Sterling Scholar nominee?
Brad has played principle parts in many high school productions. Most recently he won honors for the part of Motel in Fiddler on the Roof. Currently he is the lead in our Region One Act Play, The Infamous Soothing System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Feather by Edgar Allen Poe. He played the playboy Vittori Vidali in Sweet Charity, he was A-rab the Jet in West Side Story, and he was Fritz in Sound of Music. He has also performed the role of Romeo, and other classics such as Hap from Death of a Salesman. He won superior honors at State for his humorous interpretation of Bill Cosby. His most admirable accomplishment is to have achieved such a varied and professional repetoire in comedy, tragedy and musical theater at his young age.
